Summary

Description

Pseudoallescheria boydii infection - GMS

Pseudoallescheria have branching septate hyphae somewhat similar in appearance to those of Aspergillus. The hyphae tend to be shorter and more irregularly arranged than those of Aspergillus and they typically have conidial structures are the periphery of the colony. Several of these conidia are indicated arrows. Although culture is most helpful in distinguishing Pseudoallescheria from Aspergillus the presence of colonies and periperhal conidia are important distinguishing morphologic features.
