signed and dated J.S. 1786 I (lower left)

oval, 2 3/16 in. (56 mm.) high, silver-gilt frame, the reverse with gold initials GB on plaited hair within central panel

Georgiana Grace (d. 1826), daughter of Admiral Sir William Burnaby, married John Ezekiel des Champs (1754-1831) in Madras on 1st October 1785. They had eleven children and is buried at Stoke, near Godalming, Surrey. Her husband came from a prominent Huguenot family who had been in England since 1691. He became a writer in the Madras Civil Service of the Company in 1778 and rose through Madras appointments to become collector of several districts before becoming Chief Secretary to the Madras Government in 1801 and a Member of the Council in 1802. He was President of the Board of Trade in 1806 and was back in England in 1809. He assumed the name of Chamier pursuant to the will of his uncle, Anthony Chamier by royal licence in 1780. He is buried in St. George's, Hanover Square.
