Summary

Description
English: A portrait of Mary Elizabeth Bell, considered by her peers to have been the first women stockbroker in the United Kingdom. This image was included in journalist and suffragist Margaret Bateson's book "Professional Women Upon Their Professions", which profiled a number of women working in industries that were male-dominated at the time (if not still today). The artist for this illustration is uncredited in the book. Since the profiles in "Professional Women" originally appeared as articles in the feminist newspaper The Queen, they may have been drawn by one or more of the paper's staff illustrators.
