Notes "Ce portrait a fait partie du décor de la galerie des Hommes Illustres réalisé pour Richelieu au Palais-Cardinal (devenu ensuite Palais-Royal). Il montre le neveu de Louis XII, Gaston de Foix, duc de Nemours et roi de Navarre, qui s'illustra à la tête de l'armée royale lors de la campagne d'Italie. Philippe de Champaigne s'est inspiré d'un portrait alors attribué à Raphaël qui se trouvait dans la collection du duc de saint-Simon. Ce portrait, ajourd'hui conservé à la National Gallery de Londres [1], s'est révélé être une copie partielle du saint guerrier apparaissant dans la "Pala di Castelfranco" de Giorgione. N.M."
