Summary

Description
English: Porth Mawr or East Gate This, the main gate of the medieval walled town of Caernarfon, is also known as the Exchequer Gate and the Guild Hall Gate. In the middle ages the bridge in the foreground was a draw bridge spanning the River Cadnant and was closed between eight at night and six in the morning. The arch was widened in 1873 and the buildings above it, which housed the Guild Hall and, later, a cinema, were removed in the 1960s. The clock has not worked for years. http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/northwest/panoramics/pages/eastgate.shtml
