| Description |
English: The affectionately named 'Polycule' Symbol consists of a ring of five inward-facing hearts representing core elements of polyamory: love, honesty, openness, commitment, and consent.
Designed by Kristian Einstman and Jan Knol, the symbol was first used on a redesign of the polyamorous pride flag posted to Reddit's /polyamory subreddit in April 2021. Now adopted by polyamorous community organization PolyamProud (@polyamproud on Instagram), the symbol has already garnered the attention of community advocates and activists. According to posts on @polyamproud's Instagram account, the symbol reflects polyamory's emphasis on maintaining one's autonomy regardless of the number of relationships one participates in. Each heart stands on its own while creating a larger, cohesive whole. |
