English: Blue plaque to record house where Edith Smith lived. It is in the village of Oxton on the Wirral in Merseyside, UK She was the first woman appointed as a warranted police officer in December 1915. She therefore had full powers of arrest, as exercised by men police officers at that time. The plaque was installed by the Oxton Society, a local society established to promote the local conservation area.
