English: Plan of the fortifications of Newport. By the squadron of the King (Louis XVI) orders of the Chevalier De Ternay Wing Leader, a Knight of St John of Jerusalem, and the position and the camp of the French Army under the orders of M. le Comte de Rochambeau, Grand Cross of the Order of St. Louis, Lieutenant General of the Armies of His Majesty in 1780. (rough translation) Map made by Mr. Mullon, lieutenant commander aboard the ship Hermione. Map legend with references giving names of ships and their commanders, fleet represented in the port; color indication of the different regiments.
Français : « Plan de Défense de New-Port dans l'Isle Rhode (Amérique septentrionalle) par l'escadre du Roy aux ordres de Monsieur le Ch. De Ternay chef d'Escadre des Armées navalles Ch. de St Jean de Jérusalem Ainsi que de la position et du camp de l'Armée française aux ordres de Monsieur le comte de Rochembeau grand croix de l'Ordre Royal et militaire de St Louis, lieutenant général des Armées de sa Majesté en 1780. » Fait par Mullon, lieutenant de frégate auxiliaire à bord de l'Hermione. Orientation fleurdelysée; titre en cartouche illustré surmonté de l'armoirie de Ternay, chevalier de Saint-Jean de Jérusalem dit ordre de Malte; légende avec renvois donnant les noms de navires et de leurs commandants; flotte représentée dans le port; indication en couleur des différents régiments.
