Summary

Description
English: Looking east at the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge over the Anacostia River in Washington, D.C., in the United States. The iron truss bridge was constructed in 1890, and replaced a previous bridge which burned in 1846. The bridge featured an iron beam and wood superstructure, and masonry piers. Two over-truss spans on the northwestern terminus of the bridge accommodated the railroad trains which passed beneath. This photo was probably taken in 1939, before this bridge was dismantled to make way for the John Philip Sousa Bridge.
