Notes The photographer was Eugène Druet (1867-1916), a noted photographer and owner of an influential gallery. It was he who eventually purchased Spirit of the Dead Keep Watch (Gauguin's so-called Brown Olympia) after it failed to sell at Durand-Ruel's 1893 exhibition. In 1895 it was bought for 900 francs.
