Summary

Description
English: This natural vertical section of a flat stromatolite shows a succession of light and dark laminae.

Dark bands are the areas where the microorganisms have proliferated. They are now made of shungite (highly evoluted bitumen). Light bands are the areas where the sediment has been trapped. At the top, on the left, the very refractive crystal is a probable zircon.
