Description

The front exterior of the w:Italian Chapel, w:Orkney, w:Scotland. The chapel was built out of limited materials by Italian prisoners during w:World War II. The chapel was constructed from two w:Nissen huts joined end-to-end. Most of the decoration was done by Domenico Chiocchetti, a w:POW from w:Moena, who remained on the island to finish the chapel even when his fellow prisoners were released shortly before the end of the war.
