Summary

Description
English: View of the original building housing the first School of Medicine at Yale College, New Haven, Connecticut. Contemporary engraving (image from later postcard). Circa 1814. The building was located on Grove Street at the corner of Prospect Street, across the street from the Grove Street Cemetery, and was originally built by the businessman James Hillhouse as a hotel. Initially Yale rented the building, but a subsequent grant by the Connecticut State Legislature enabled Yale to purchase it.
