Summary

Description
English: Old croft buildings above Redburn. Old croft buildings above Redburn. Typical croft house development where buildings developed along the line of the original house. This saved the cost of a wall on any new development. This example would have originally been thatched but after the first world war corrugated iron was available in quantity and relatively cheaply. Many croft houses were converted to this style of roof which was lighter and lasted longer than thatch.
