Licensing[edit]

NZ Air Force Crest. Sourced from the NZ Defence Force, which allows reproduction without permission provided the use is not misleading or derogatory and provided the source and copyright are acknowledged. It is used in articles such as Royal New Zealand Air Force for illustrative purposes (it being the logo of the main subject of the article), in some articles as a means of associating the article with main articles (such as Command Training School), and in other articles for purposes of distinguishing the Air Force from other branches of the military (such as in New Zealand military ranks). No free alternative is possible.

Not an image I posted, but since a Fair use explanation is requested:

Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because: It illustrates an educational article about the entity that the logo represents. The image is used as the primary means of visual identification of the article topic. The logo is not used in such a way that a reader would be confused into believing that the article is written or authorized by the owner of the logo. It is not replaceable with an uncopyrighted or freely copyrighted image of comparable educational value. For examp-le. Better explanation is probably available if this does not persuade IP deletionists to leave it alone.

While you are considering this,

a/ Please retain an open mind to moves to remove Wikipedia IP policies from their present near blind parroting of US copyright law, when 1. US law doesn't apply to most of the planet, 2. the Users are not subject to only the law of the place servers are and 3. there is more to intellectual property law than just copyright, Dorothy.

b/ Please retain an open mind to moves to include other systems such as Commonwealth crown copyright as applies to this image, which would enable many more images, from more nations, to be shown without unreasonably restricting peoples ability to reproduce images. Is it really best to follow only the US law "Free Use/Fair Use" ideology?

c/ Please remember Wikipedia policy is determined by a small fairly cliquey, fairly deletionist group of users who like that sort of thing. It is not tablets of stone from God. Just cause you can find a bit of policy supporting your deletion may not mean trashing others work is the right thing to do. Winstonwolfe 04:25, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
