| Description |
Thunderstorms during the North American Monsoon as seen from El Cajon, California. This is a common sight from southern California during the monsoon season. The monsoon is held back by the Penensular Range leaving a spectacular view of the thunderstorms only a half-hour's drive from the hot and sunny coastal strip. It is rare for the storms to push over the mountains. Only about once a season do the storms bring relief from the heat to the Los Angeles and San Diego areas. This photograph was created from 10 images (Canon S3 IS) stitched together with The Panorama Factory v.4. Some extra sky was cut and pasted above the clouds with MS Paint and one of the seams was cleaned-up with the GIMP. Note:This is a second replacement for Image for North American Monsoon 20060701.jpg, which was shown in the North American Monsoon section of the Monsoon article. I noted that I wanted to take a better picture. It took over two years but here it is. I doubt I'll get a better one. This is about as good as it gets. |
