Summary

Description
English: Norman chancel arch A comparatively uninspiring neo-Norman exterior rebuilt in 1792 ill-prepares the visitor to St.Peter & St.Paul's for the extraordinary chancel arch within. Five orders of shafts support seven orders of moulded arches with zig zag, billet, beak heads, grotesques, crenellations and all manner of leaves, animals and motifs. Structurally unsound as the arch has sunk in the last 900 years to give a rather depressed appearance - nevertheless, one of the finest chancel arches in England and a wonder to behold.
