Norsk bokmål: Stepan Osipovitsj Makarov, russisk marineoffiser, kommandant for den russiske Stillehavsflåten ved begynnelsen av krigen mellom Russland og Japan (1904). Oceanograf, polfarer, båtbygger og viseadmiral (fra 1896). Han bygget isbryteren Ermak til arktiske reiser. Introduserte utrustning av dampskip med minebærende båter og var den første som brukte selvdrevne minetorpedoer konstruert av Robert Whitehead. Pionér i torpedoforsvar mot undervannsbåter. Med dedikasjon.
English: Stepan Osipovitsj Makarov, Russian naval officer, commander of the Russian fleet in the Pacific at the beginning of the war between Russia and Japan (1904). Oceanographer, arctic explorer, boatbuilder and vice-admiral (from 1896), he built the ice breaker Ermak for arctic travels. Introduced the outfitting of steamers with mine carrying boats, and was the first to use automatic (self driven) mine-torpedoes constructed by Robert Whitehead. Pioneer in torpedo defence against submarines. With dedication. (Leningrad).

Zeedeskundige, poolonderzoeker, scheepsbouwer en vice-admiraal (vanaf 1896). Hij bouwde de ijsbreker ³Ermak² voor poolreizen. Hij introduceerde de stoombootsuitrusting voor mijnen en was de eerste die gebruik maakte van Robert Whiteheads automatische mijntorpedo's. Hij was pionier in verdediging met torpedo's tegen onderzeeboten. Met opdracht.
