Summary

Description
English: Place: Guangzhou, Guangdong Province

Chinese name: 南京新雅途英格尔 (nánjīng xīnyǎtú yīnggé'ěr) Year of launch: 1999

It's quite interesting how two old Seat designs had a second life on the Chinese market. The Seat Toledo continued production as a Chery, while the Ibiza Mk.1 had a rebirth in the form of the Nanjing Soyat and Encore. Production rights, toolings and technology were bought by a joint venture between Nanjing Yuejin and the Malaysian Lion Group in 1997. It finally entered the market in 1999 with 1.2 and 1.5-litre 'System Porsche' engines, later followed by a 1.3-litre Daihatsu engine replacing the 1.2.

The cars were made by a new subsidiary of Nanjing Auto (NAC) called Nanjing Soyat. Low-end versions were called Unique and more luxurious versions had the Encore name (code name NJ6400). It was revamped in 2004 (code name NJ7150), when it received new bumpers, grille, headlights, taillights and tailgate. It received a final update in late 2006 and remained in production until 2008, when NAC filed for bankruptcy and was taken over by SAIC. Very interesting is the four-door van, with a rear end very similar to the Seat Inca, a van based on the second generation Seat Ibiza.
