Description
English: IN 1834 JACOB AND CATHERINE HEIST BUILT A TAVERN ON THE SITE OF LAND GIVEN TO THEM BY HER FATHER, JACOB LEVERING. THE PRESENT MANOR HOUSE IS BELIEVED TO BE INCORPORATED IN THAT EARLY TAVERN. THE PROPERTY PASSED TO WILLIAM SINGERLY WHO BUILT THE IMMENSE BARN AND THE FARM BECAME KNOWN AS THE “RECORD FARM” BECAUSE MR. SINGERLY OWNED THE PHILADELPHIA RECORD. IN 1913 RALPH STRASSBURGER BOUGHT THE FARM AND RENAMED IT NORMANDY BECAUSE HE HAD HONEYMOONED IN NORMANDY WITH HIS BRIDE, THE DAUGHTER OF THE PRESIDENT OF SINGER SEWING MACHINE. HE CONTINUED USING IT AS A FARM AND HIS HEIRS MAINTAINED IT UNTIL 1993 WHEN IT WAS SOLD TO THE VESTERA CORPORATION. IT NOW HOUSES A HOTEL AND SEVERAL RESTAURANTS PLUS A RETIREMENT COMMUNITY
