L'orchestre Kithara de Zanzibar en concert à l'Institut du monde arabe (IMA), le samedi 30 novembre 2013

Le Taarab appartient à la tradition musicale de Zanzibar. C'est un mélange de musique de style arabe et de rythme noir africain né à la fin du XIXe siècle à l'époque des Sultans.

Les instruments de Kithara sont ceux des orchestres égyptiens violon, oud, derbouka, flûte nay, kanoun accompagnant le chant mais agrémentés d'une basse et de percussions africaines.
