Summary

Description
English: The Museum of disABILITY History, 3826 Main Street at Maynard Road, Amherst, New York, May 2020. Built in 1932 and sporting a Colonial Revival design that's the work of the local firm of Bley & Lyman, this two-story, flat-roofed structure has a façade that's characterized by a recessed brick arcade on the second story with keystone voussoirs, the central elevant of which also contains engaged Ionic columbs framing a small balcony (contrasting with the Doric portico at the first-floor entrance). Additionally, a protruding cast stone cornice is topped by a parapet wall at the roofline. The building was originally home to the Eggertsville Hose Company's fire hall, and served in that capacity until its 1995 conversion to offices. The Museum of disABILITY History, operated by People Inc. as the only facility of its kind in the country, has occupied the building since 2010.
