Description
English: Monument at Wideford Farm This monument celebrates the first scheduled air service from Inverness to Kirkwall by Edmund (Ted) Fresson in 1933. The airport was then located at Wideford Farm, up the hill from the present Kirkwall Airport. The plaque on the monument states: "On 8th May 1933 Capt Ted Fresson in Highland Airways Monospar G-ACEW landed the first scheduled air service from Inverness on this site which was Orkney's first aerodrome" http://www.ambaile.org.uk/en/item/item_photograph.jsp?item_id=73535
