Summary

Description
English: The former (or: old) Monte Rosa Hut at 2.795 metres altitude, replaced by the new Monte Rosa hut (2.883 m) some 100 m away, which was opened in 2009. The depicted hut was demolished in 2011 by a controlled demolition by the Swiss military and the debris removed. The elongated mountain behind is the Gornergrat (easily accessible from Zermatt by train) with some buildings visible left from the flag pole at the hut, from where most of the pictures of the Monte Rosa mountain massif (situated behind the photographer of this image) are made.
