Summary

Description

Opening their company in 1850, George and Arthur Maw created lavish tiles out of their Edinburgh factory. This catalogue book was produced 17 years into the company’s history as a means to showcase their products. Each page is headed and labelled as ‘Maw and Co’s Encaustic Tiles/Tile Pavements, Benthall Works, Broseley, Shropshire’ with each title describing its true size once ordered and how many tiles are in a grouping shown to achieve a full/partial picture. Maw and Co still exists after many reincarnations of the company and can be found at www.mawandco…This company at one time was the largest producers of tiles in the world and served high status customers such as the Royal Family, Alexander II of Russia and many other dukes, earls and other institutions of high calibre.
