Summary: A copper tsuba depicting Shōki (鍾馗) and a demon.

Production Place: Japan

Description: Copper, nadekaku gata, kaku mimi tsuba in the Hamano Nara Style. The nakago ana has copper sekigane. The design in shishiai bori, literally complexion carving, with gold inlay shows Shoki on the omote (front) and a demon on the ura (back). The mei reads: Otsuryūken Masayuki. Joly confirms that the maker Masayuki is the same person as Shōzui (政随), an important founder member of the Hamano (浜野) branch of the Nara School. Mr. Hara Shinkichi has identified that Shōzui, or Masayuki , also used the names Miboku and Otsuryūken (1695-1769).
