Notes

In the Opera Box (Breeskin 22) softground, aquatint and etching, circa 1880, on wove paper, an unsigned working proof in an undescribed intermediate state between the third and fourth, final state, with the highlights on her head and shoulder and with the circular light at upper right, but before the the spectators and the decorations on the balcony, probably the full sheet, a deckle edge below, scattered foxing, the sheet slightly toned. P. 204 x 187 mm., S. 299 x 217 mm.

Price realised 21 September 2011 was $58,483.
