On astronomy, Arabic manuscript on paper, 92ff. plus two fly-leaves, each folio with 17ll. of black naskh script, some words picked out in red, one double page with astronomical diagrams, text within red rules, opening folio with gold and polychrome illuminated headpiece, the name of Ottoman sultans in the preface and colophon probably highlighted in gold at a later date, some marginal notes, in fine Timurid gilt and tooled brown morocco binding Text panel 4 5/8 x 2½in. (11.6 x 6.3cm.); folio 7 1/8 x 4¾in. (18.2 x 12.1cm.)

Muslih al-Din al-Lari was born in Lar, in Iran in 1510. He is known for his works on logic, mathematics, astronomy law, theology and Qur'an exegesis. He was a student of Ghyath al-Din Shirazi (d.1542 AD). Al-Lari moved to India, to the court of Humayun and then travelled to Turkey in 1566. He died in Diyarbakir in 1572 having worked there as head teacher of the Hüsrev Pasha school in Diyar Bakir.

Four of his works, one on mathematics and three on astronomical problems are known today. The astronomical treatises are a commentary dedicated to Humayun, a text on dawn and twilight and a treatise composed in the form of questions and answers.
