English: Figure 37. Viollet-le-Duc: (translation) "...The archers and crossbowmen who were in charge of shooting incessantly against the battlements of a rampart attacked during the work of the miners or the maneuver of the engineers busy advancing the belfries, the cats and the ladders, covered themselves with light mantelets such as those shown in fig. 36 and 37 ..."
