Groupe destiné à la pièce d'eau des Nappes du parc de Marly avec La Loire et le Loiret de Corneille Van Clève et des groupes représentant d'autres rivières par les sculpteurs Anselme Flamen et Simon Hurtrelle. Après la confection du modèle en plâtre en 1699,l'exécution en marbre se poursuivit de 1701 à 1712, date apposée sur le marbre. Le groupe a été porté près du bassin occidental du jardin des Tuileries dès 1719.
