English: Print. Monochrome view of the sinking of HMS Porpoise and the Indiaman, Cato, off the coast of Australia depicting crewmen escaping the disaster aboard a single-sailed cutter. They are shown waving back to a crowd of people stranded upon a small bank of land. An inverted ensign (a signal of distress) has been raised on the island and two tents have been erected further along the bank. A small overladen raft approaches the bank, the group on board raising their hats to the departing cutter. The Porpoise and Cato are seen in the distance, listing heavily and breaking up. |
