Description
Deutsch: 5: Anmarsch der englischen Hilfsvölker.
Malcolm, des ermordeten König Duncans Sohn, sucht zur Eroberung des ihm zustehenden Thrones Hilfe bei den Engländern. Macbeth, der sich durch grausame Verfolgung der Freunde seines ehemaligen Königs und durch sein hartes Regiment verhaßt gemacht hat, befragt aufs neue die Hexen nach seinem Lose. Sie prophezeien ihm, daß er nur dann unterliegen würde, wenn der Wald von Birnam vor dem Schloße Dunsinan erschiene. Als die englischen Hilfstruppen auf Schloß Dunsinan, den Sitz Macbeth's marschierten, benutzten sie zu ihrer Deckung Zweige aus dem Walde Birnam.
