Description
English: Leigh-Pemberton House, Lincoln. This building is currently being used as a Tourist Information Office, but there is now the threat of closure (as of 2009) http://www.thisislincolnshire.co.uk/news/Fears-Lincoln-s-tourist-information-centres/article-706414-detail/article.html It is a large timber framed merchant’s house of 1543, possibly the Ironmongers Arms in 1666 and extensively restored in the 20th century. It was a bank from c.1899-1979. Sir Robert Leigh-Pemberton was chairman of the NatWest Bank and Governor of the Bank of England 1983-93. The house stands at the corner of Castle Hill and Bailgate.
