Deutsch: Liegnitz ist eine Großstadt in der polnischen Woiwodschaft Niederschlesien. Die kreisfreie Stadt ist Kreisstadt des Powiat Legnicki (Liegnitzer Bezirk). Bis 1945 war Liegnitz Hauptstadt des Regierungsbezirkes Liegnitz in der preußischen Provinz Schlesien.

Polski: Legnica - miasto w województwie dolnośląskim, pow. grodzki, siedziba pow. legnickiego. Wczesnopiastowski gród, wzmiankowany 1149; siedziba kasztelanii; zamek obronny, rozbudowany w 1. poł. XIII w., 1241 oparł się najazdowi Tatarów (Legnickie Pole); prawa miejskie przed 1252 (po 1242?); w XIII i XIV w. rozwój sukiennictwa, piwowarstwa i in. rzemiosł oraz handlu; od pocz. XIV w. licznie osiedlali się Żydzi, w XV w. wypędzeni; od 1331 pod zwierzchnictwem Czech, dzieliła losy polit. Śląska; do 1675 stol. księstwa piastowskiego; od 1522 ośr. luteranizmu; od 1742 w państwie pruskim; w 2. poł. XIX w. rozwój przemysłu fabrycznego; od 1815 stolica rejencji; od 1945 w granicach Polski. |
