В иконографическом отношении икона типична для XVIII в., особенно для его середины - второй половины. Основные звенья композиции пришли из искусства XVI в. С конца XVII в. становятся популярными такие мотивы иконографии данного памятника, как композиция "Предста Царица" в изображении Горнего Иерусалима, с фигурами Христа и Богоматери в рост, причем Христос держит в руках большой крест; как изображение грешников, связанных одной цепью, которую держит сатана; как изображение пустынной земли с водной гладью вдали. Интересно изображение богача с серебром, в колеснице, запряженной двумя бесами, которыми правит третий бес. Данный вариант Страшного суда сложился под сильным влиянием печатной графики. Из гравюр пришли и многочисленные тексты, и их компоновка, и даже разбивка как бы на отдельные страницы текстов, поясняющих изображения вечных мук и грехи идущих в ад грешников различных сословий. Очень интересны такие детали фольклорного характера, как изображения зверей, рыб и птиц. Икона ярко представляет искусство городских посадов, любимое народом. Исполнивший икону мастер в своей палитре опирался на опыт русской иконописи середины XVIII в. Особенности композиции, а также личное письмо, имеющее гладкую поверхность, с характерными бликами на глазах, передающими их почти "натуральный" блеск, позволяют сузить датировку иконы до 1770-1780 годов.
