L'hôtel de ville vu depuis le bassin du Vieux-Port Le projet d’édifice destiné à abriter l'hôtel de ville date de 1653 mais ce n'est qu'en 1666, que Gaspard Puget, frère de Pierre Puget, reprend le projet. Les sculpteurs François et Mathieu Pourtal (ou Portal), Martinet, Levaquery et Martin Grosfils travaillent aux ornements de la façade. Pierre Puget ne réalise en 1673 que l’écusson placé au-dessus de la porte principale. L’hôtel de ville ne fut effectivement occupé que fin septembre 1673.
