English: This image shows exposures of the Kirtland Formation at its type location just south of Kirland, New Mexico. The Kirtland Formation is mostly mudstone and is late Cretaceous (Campanian) in age, around 74 MYa. The formation has yielded numerous vertebrate fossils. |
