Summary

Description
English: Germanic grave goods from the late Roman fortress of Keszthely-Fenékpuszta
  • Zala County, Hungary

In the center of the discovery site of Keszthely-Fenékpuszta at the southwestern end of Lake Balaton is the late Roman fortress Fenékpuszta. The rectangular layout with round side and corner towers was erected during the 4th century in the territory of the Roman province Pannonia I and belongs to the circle of so-called inner fortresses. Since the late 19th century, over 1000 burials extra and intra muros as well as 24 stone structures within the fortress have been examined.
To the east of the horreum, probably in the vicinity of a wooden church, a total of 36 body burials have been dug up. Most of the burials were without grave goods, but seven graves were richly endowed. The goods are Byzantine or Byzantine-influenced products. They count among the most splendid commodities of the 6th century in Pannonia.

Deutsch: Germanische Grabbeigaben aus der spätrömischen Festung Keszthely-Fenékpuszta
  • Komitat Zala, Ungarn

Jahrhunderts in Pannonien.
