Summary

Description
English: An artwork depicting Kanjeng Ratu Kidul by Gunawan Kartapranata. Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, the Queen of the Southern Sea of Java (Indian Ocean or Samudra Kidul south of Java island). According to traditional Javanese and Sundanese beliefs, she is the female deity (spirit) that reigning the creatures of the southern seas of Java. She is revered in places (beaches) such as Palabuhan Ratu, Pangandaran, Parang Kusumo and Parang Tritis. The deity is revered in both Javanese Mataram and Sundanese traditions. According to Javanese beliefs, Panembahan Senopati, the founder of Mataram Sultanate met her during his ascetism practice in Parang Kusumo beach. The deity queen of Southern sea agreed to help Panembahan Senopati, thus she become the mythical spiritual bride (consort) of series of Mataram Kings to Yogyakarta and Surakarta kingdoms.
Bahasa Indonesia: Penggambaran Kanjeng Ratu Kidul karya Gunawan Kartapranata. Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, Ratu Laut Selatan Jawa (Samudera Hindia atau Samudra Kidul di selatan pulau Jawa). Menurut kepercayaan tradisional Jawa dan Sunda, dia adalah dewi (roh) yang memerintah makhluk laut selatan Jawa. Ia dihormati di tempat-tempat (pantai) seperti Palabuhan Ratu, Pangandaran, Parang Kusumo dan Parang Tritis. Dia dihormati di kedua Keraton Mataram (Surakarta dan Yogyakarta) dan dalam tradisi Jawa Sunda. Menurut kepercayaan Jawa, Panembahan Senopati, pendiri Kesultanan Mataram bertemu beliau selama bertapa di pantai Parang Kusumo. Ratu Laut Selatan setuju untuk membantu Panembahan Senopati, kemudian dia menjadi pengantin spiritual (permaisuri) secara mistis dari serangkaian Raja Mataram di Yogyakarta dan Surakarta.
