Summary

Description
English: The earliest surviving photographic views of Singapore as a British settlement were taken in 1844 by Jules Itier of the French Customs Service, who was travelling through Singapore as head of a commercial mission to China and the East Indies. The four quarter-plate daguerreotypes (83 x 10.5 centimetres) inclde a view of the Singapore River from Government Hill.
