Summary

Description
English: Jeffrey Selman: "Separation of Church and State" (8/5/2018)

Indivisible Columbus Georgia is proud to present Jeffrey Selman who shared with us his journey as a successful plaintiff in two cases in Cobb County, Georgia, involving separation of church and state.

Jeffrey was born in the Bronx, NYC. He worked for the US government in the “War on Poverty” as a VISTA with the Navajo. He earned a BA in History from Lehman College. He was both an elementary and a high school teacher. He switched careers later, becoming a COBOL programmer which brought him to Georgia. Here he met his wife and started a family. His son’s attendance in Cobb County public schools opened his eyes to the unconstitutional actions taking place there and in the local government. These events set him on a path toward protecting true freedom of belief that lets all people follow their own heart without inappropriate governmental intrusion.

In 2015, he published a book titled God Sent Me: A Textbook Case on Evolution vs. Creation. His goal was to inspire others to work toward protecting separation of church and state and valid science education.

Mr. Selman is affiliated with Americans United for Separation of Church and State, the American Civil Liberties Union and The National Center for Science Education. He was one of the original founders of the Rainforest Alliance out of NYC, A former President of the Vegetarian Society of Georgia and a Former Advisory Board member of Georgia Citizens for Integrity in Science Education. He is currently Co-president of the Atlanta chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Selman has an impressive list of appearances including “Good Morning America,” “Nightly News with Tom Brokaw,” “Penn & Teller,“ "Nancy Grace,” “Fox News,” The French “Canal Plus,” "Atlanta Jewish Talk" on Air America and the BBC.

He has been Interviewed by print media including the “New York Times,” “Washington Post,” “Los Angeles Times,” “Time Magazine,” “Atlanta Journal Constitution,” “Marietta Daily Journal” and several Canadian, British, French, German, and Japanese newspapers.

A favorite quote of Mr. Selman made during the long drawn-out court cases: “Look, this isn’t what I want to do with my life. I want to plant trees in the backyard. I want to take my kid hiking. But there’s no way I’m dropping this. This is my life. Without freedom, we’ve got nothing.”
