Summary[edit]

Jean Moulin, dressed with a scarf and fedora, looks at the camera.

The photo was taken by Marcel Bernard (died 1991) and is therefore still under copyright. Nonetheless, it has been reproduced many times as a symbol of the French Resistance, in school books, ceremonies and the like. It is therefore not replaceable by copyright-free images of Jean Moulin.

Jean Moulin seems distant, seemingly hiding under the layers of clothing. However, it was taken in Montpellier in February 1940 during a family visit, before Jean Moulin decided to join the Resistance.
