Summary

Description
English: A portrait of James Manning, Brown's first president, holding the office from 1764-1791. Manning was a Baptist Minister and sent to Rhode Island to found a college. In 1769 he presided over the school's first commencement with seven graduates. This portrait was painted in 1770 by Cosmo Alexander
