we have describedin our sketch of the life of Opothle Yoholo. The dance beingfinished, they feast upon boiled corn, the first fruits of the year;and the singing, dancing, and eating are kept up for several days.Should a culprit, whose life has been forfeited, have escapedpunishment until this festive season, and be so fortunate or sodexterous as to make his way into the square during the dance,he is considered as being under the protection of the Great Spirit,to whose agency they attribute the circumstances of his previousescape and present appearance among them, and his pardon issecured. 76 BIOGRAPHY. Of Mistippee there is little to tell. When at Washington, in18-26, he was a remarkably handsome boy, and in all respectsprepossessing. His father gave him unusual advantages in regardto education, which he is supposed to have improved. When atmaturity he wedded a comely woman of the Hillabee towns, andsoon after emigrated to the new home provided for his people, westof the Mississippi.
