Description
English: The four masted steel barque 'Hougomont', 2428 tons, docked in an unidentified port [steel 4 mast barque, 2428 tons. ON106093. 292.4 x 43.2 x 24.1. Built 1897 Scott and Co. Greenock. Owners: J Hardie and Co. Registered Glasgow. After WW1 passed to Gustav Eriksson and was employed in the Australia grain trade. Dismasted on her passage to South Australia in 1932. Spent some time anchored off Semaphore while awaiting a decision for her fate, but repairs proving to be too expensive in Australia she was taken and scuttled as a breaker in Stenhouse Bay

One of the ships owned by Hardie's Fleet / J. Hardie and Co., Glasgow.

This image is from the A.D. Edwardes Collection of about 8,000 photographs, mostly of sailing ships from around the world, taken between about 1865 and 1920. Mounted in 91 albums, the photographs are arranged by country of ownership, with some special volumes such as 'Shipping at Port Adelaide' and 'South Australian outports'. Additional information, giving the history of the ships where known, has been provided by maritime historian, Ron Parsons
