He was for four years an influential member of the Illinois Legis-lature. Holding the most advanced views as to the rights of women, he has,throughout his long and useful life, bent every energy and labored in season andout of season, in whatever position he might occupy, to do all in his power toadvance this interest. His varied career in many fields of activity may be appreciated by brieflyrecounting the many positions he has filled.
