Description
English: An ex-NE Worsdell J21 0-6-0 at Heaton Locomotive Depot.
View eastward in the Locomotive Yard; one of a large class of useful 0-6-0's, J21 No. 65110 seems to be in ex-Works condition. Heaton was a large Depot serving principally the extensive Heaton marshalling yards and freight traffic but also a considerable proportion of main line and local passenger traffic from Newcastle. Coded 52B in the NE Region (Newcastle District) under BR, in 1954 it had an allocation of 95 locomotives, comprising:- 16 4-6-2, 17 2-6-2, 1 4-4-0, 14 2-6-0 (9 LNE + 5 LMS-type), 14 0-6-0, 12 2-6-2T, 1 0-6-2T, 18 0-6-0T and 2 unique Bo-Bo electric shunters, used at the Riverside Yard.
