Summary

Description A standard-design hand counter or clicker tally, sold as a knitting counter. Each click of the silver-coloured lever advances the count upwards by one. This gadget has the advantage for knitting over dedicated knitting row counters in that it counts up to four figures and in that it can be used where on-needle counters are not possible. It is also more robust and easier to handle than some dedicated knitting counters. However the knurled black knob on the right is intended only to reset the numbers to zero. There is no quick way of setting the numbers to count upwards from row 96, for example. You have to click 96 times to set the numbers for that purpose. Also there is no lock to protect the count against handling by inquisitive young children. So this example explains one reason for the existence of dedicated knitting row counters.
