Summary

Description
English: photo of Barton Campbell Hagerman (22 Oct 1853 - 14 Apr 1922) from Shelby County, Kentucky. Graduated from the Bible College of Kentucky University in June 1874, from Bethany College (West Virginia) in 1876. He stayed to teach Greek at Bethany College and married Mary A. "Mamie" Campbell, the granddaughter of Selina and Alexander Campbell, founder of the Disciples of Christ and Bethany College. He served as President of Madison Female Institute in Richmond, Ky., and returned to Bethany College to serve as sixth president (1897-1898); then, he was recruited to serve as president of Hamilton Female College in Lexington, Ky. He was replaced in 1902 by suffragist Luella Wilcox St. Clair, and he started a new women's college only 4 blocks away: Campbell-Hagerman College. This school closed upon the death of his wife in 1912. He died in his home in Los Angeles, CA. Image snipped from page 33 of Notable Men of Kentucky at the Beginning of the 20th Century (1901-1902).
