Summary

Description
English: The last true Princess of Wales, near to Pointon, Lincolnshire, Great Britain.

Commemorative plaque of Welsh slate to Gwenllian of Wales, daughter of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, the last true Prince of Wales (known to the Welsh to this day as Ein Llyw Olaf - Our Last Ruler), and grand-daughter of Simon de Montfort. She was born at Garth Celyn, Aber, near Bangor in Wales in June 1282 and captured as a baby by King Edward I after the defeat and death of her father in 1283. She was obviously a threat to King Edward's power in Wales but he couldn't bring himself to have her killed. In order to ensure she remained childless, she spent the rest of her life in enforced imprisonment in Sempringham Priory where she remained for 54 years until her death in 1337.

The monument was erected in 1995.
